ATOMIC AND NUCLEAR PHYSICS

This book provides an introduction to the physics of atoms and nuclei. It is mainly meant for B.Sc. and M.Sc. students. the scope and coverage of each topic follow the syllabi prescribed by most Indian Universities. the style and method of presentation is lucid and explanatory. A healthy balance has been maintained between the experimental and theoretical aspects to give the students a clear understanding of how this interesting branch of physics has developed.

This edition has additional subject matter included in a few chapters and sections. At the same time, some material has been rearranged, others made concise and a few comparatively elementary topics omitted. The chapters on matter waves, diatomic molecules, cosmic rays and elementary particles have been expanded considerably, recent techniques for particle detection and acceleration included and the section on lasers dealt with in grater detail.
