The purpose of the book is to give the reader a thorough idea of the threefold love literature of Ancient Greece, novels, short stories and poems. For this reason, summaries of 14 well-known love novels, 10 short stories from the Parthenio collection, and a small but representative sample of 19 love poems from the "Hellenic Anthology" book are included. Three love poems are also included, apart from the Anthology. These are a poem by Ibycus (6th century BC), the famous "Hymn to Love" by the tragic poet Sophocles (497 – 406 BC) and an excerpt from a poem by the famous poetess Sappho (7th century BC) .
