Foreword by mathematician Georgios Anastasiou , Professor at the University of Memphis, USA.
Eudoxus the Cnidius is considered today, if not equal, at least second to the greatest mathematician of all time, Archimedes . And this recognition is of particular importance given that none of his scientific works have survived. However, the reliable ancient testimonies are enough to form an opinion about the great work of the "Glorious" Eudoxus .
The explanation of the title of the book "A great stranger" is not accidental. A small street in the "Neos Kosmos" district of Athens that bears the name of Eudoxus gave the Greek section of the World Group for the Promotion of Ancient Greek Mathematics the reason to do a relevant sample survey. The question was: "What do you know about Eudoxus". Of the 100 residents and passers-by of Evdoxou Street, only 8 gave correct answers.
