Mathematician and economist Georgios Bitsakakis , Professor at the University of Oxford, forewords.
The small, but important, treatise of Proclus "Elements of Physics", or as it is referred to in some codices "On motion", consists of two books. The first book contains 6 definitions and 31 sentences. The second book contains 14 definitions and 21 sentences.
The value of Proclus 's work, which is unknown to the general public at present, is great, since it is the third book in the world in which propositions of physics are presented in a mathematical form. The first two are Euclid 's works "Optics" and "Mirrors".
Proclus , in his present work, organized the relevant Aristotelian theories (books g and i of the "Physics" and book a¢ of "Perὶ ὐρανοῦ") according to the model of Euclid 's "Elements".
