Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens Georgios Katsiaris forewords.
The philosophical current of the Neoplatonists also includes various branches of the philosophy of mathematics, as they were formulated by the Pythagoreans , Plato and Aristotle . The teaching of Neoplatonism spread in various cities of the Greco-Roman world forming three special Schools: the Alexandrian, with representatives Plotinus and Porphyry , the Athenian with Proclus as the main representative and the Syrian with Iamblichus as the representative.
Proclus in his work "Comments on the "Elements" of Euclid" indirectly touches on issues of the philosophy of mathematics, while Iamblichus 's work "On the common (in general) mathematical science" is a pure work in the philosophy of mathematics. For the first time, a work is presented to the world which, through 35 chapters, presents the ideas of Plato , Aristotle and especially the Pythagoreans in mathematics.
