This book is in two parts. The first one deals with the theoretical fundamentals of chemistry, often with extra explanations and examples to illustrate the material.

The second part deals with all the periodic groups of elements, first the s and p elements, and then d and f elements. The identical structure of all the chapters in this part and the same sequence for setting out the reference material will enable the reader, we believe, to obtain a comprehensive idea of the chemistry of both individual elements and the groups thereof.
