This two-volume collection of experiments, each accompanied by a short theoretical introduction, deals with the main branches of radiochemistry – general radiochemistry, the chemistry of nuclear transformations, the chemistry of radioactive elements, and applied radiochemistry – included in the general radiochemistry curricula and in a number of other practical courses.
The general introduction outlines certain basic concepts, discusses safety conditions and general rules for work with radioactive isotopes, and describes the design of a laboratory.
This volume contains the first two parts. Part one treats experiments in general radiochemistry – the state of radioactive isotopes and elements in dilute solutions, ion and isotope exchange, coprecipitation and adsorption, extraction, and the electrochemistry of radioactive isotopes and elements.
Part two deals with experiments in the chemistry of nuclear transformations, the separation and concentration of radioactive isotopes and elements, and the change in radioactive substances that is caused by their own radiation.
The introductions to the chapters and individual experiments are not intended as complete discussions of the relevant branch of radiochemistry, but contain only the basic information needed to understand the experiments. These introduction in no way replace textbooks on radiochemistry.
