Από τον πρόλογο του βιβλίου:
"When David Hilbert presided over lectures at Gottingen, he used to tell the speaker: "All we want is the raisins from the cake." This book is based on a similar idea. It is an introductory version of the Jones and Bartlett text Differential Equations: Theory and Applications". It is not an afterthought, but was planned by both the author and publisher before the first book went into production.
The guiding principle is to omit all topics that are not obviously suitable for a basic introductory course; if any subject does not meet that criterion, out it goes. In an honors or terminal course under a single instructor, supplementary topics add to the learning environment. They are a source of enrichment. But in a large class consisting of many sections, or in a service course attended by students from other departments, such topics complicate the preparation of a syllabus and invite unauthorized departure from it."
